Qatar and Benin signed six co-operation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) Tuesday, on the sidelines of the working visit of Benin’s President Patrice Talon to the country.

The agreements and MoUs are:
  • An agreement to exempt both countries’ diplomatic and special passport holders from visa requirements
  • An MoU to establish a mechanism for political and diplomatic consultations
  • An MoU between Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Benin’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries to co-operate in the fields of agriculture and food security
  • A co-operation agreement in the fields of education, higher education, and scientific research
  • An MoU on the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates
  • An MoU to co-operate in tourism and business events.
The agreement on visa exemptions and the MoU on mechanism for political and diplomatic consultations were signed by HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi and Benin’s Foreign Minister Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.

HE al-Muraikhi also signed the MoU on agriculture and food security together with Benin’s Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of Co-operation, Romuald Wadagni.

HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed AlKhater and Wadagni signed the agreement on education, higher education, and scientific research.

HE the Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Thani and Bakari signed the MoU on the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates.

HE the Chairman of Qatar Tourism Saad bin Ali bin Saad al-Kharji and Wadagni signed the MoU to co-operate in tourism and business events.
